Minute with the Minister…

Nothing Separates Us From The Love Of God

Do You Believe This??

Genesis 29:15-28 Jacob Marries Leah and Rachel

Romans 8:26-39 More than Conquerors

Matthew 13:44-58 The Parables of the Hidden Treasure and the Pearl, The Net; a Prophet without Honour.

For he loves us with unfailing love; the LORD’s faithfulness endures forever. Praise the LORD! [Ps 117:2, NLT]

Our gospel passage once again puts before us some of Jesus’ parables he used to describe the kingdom of heaven. What a difficult task! How can words accurately convey the truth of such a mystery?

How would we describe the kingdom today to someone who had never experienced it, or recognised it?

The Apostle Paul discovered the kingdom and experienced the reality of God’s grace in a dramatic way. He was a fierce persecutor of Christians until his dramatic encounter with the Spirit of Jesus on the Damascus road set him free from sin, and his new life in Christ began.

Following his conversion he directed his enthusiasm towards passionately sharing this wonderful news with others. In today’s passage from his letter to the Roman Church Paul reminds us that nothing in all creation can come between us and our loving God. Whatever feelings of guilt and self-derision may haunt us, they cannot alter God’s redeeming and accepting love.

The tragedies and conflicts of this life may discourage us – failures and defeats may trip us up – revolutions may shake up nations and topple governments and institutions – our personal convictions and security may crumble – but God’s love and reconciling grace are forever.

If our faith is firmly fixed on him, we become ‘more than conquerors’, and the very things that seek to destroy us become the means by which He carries out his will in us and through us.

Nothing, absolutely nothing, can ever separate us from the love of God as revealed and proclaimed and demonstrated through Jesus Christ. We are children of God, his servants and disciples forever!

Rev. Alan
