13th Anniversary of
St Andrew’s Bells
Today marks the 13th Anniversary of the installation of the bells at St Andrews.The first 6 bells came from Wilton, Wiltshire (near Salisbury) and are now hung in their 3rd tower having been cast in 1831/1832.Two further bells were added in 2004 to make up an octave in B flat. The bellringers maintain contact with the Wilton Parish and rang a peal in October to celebrate the first peal ever rung on the Wilton bells in 1945.Our peal took 2 hours and 43 minutes to ring (3 minutes faster than at Wilton) and our peal was the 3rd highest scoring performance in the world (as rated by bellringers for the Central Council in London) during the last week in October.We are also the second leading tower in Australia for special performances in ringing.
Last week we had 3 visitors from Gloucestershire, UK and we rang a quarter peal with them of Grandsire Doubles and one of the UK ringers had rung on the bells when they were in Wilton.This weekend we are planning to ring 13 quarter peals for the 13th Anniversary, but bellringers always say they “attempt” peals and quarters as there is never a guarantee of success.

~ PRAYER OF THE DAY (COLLECT) ~
We pause to offer prayers and thanksgiving that we bring to our celebration of Holy Communion.
Everliving God,
whose apostle Andrew heard the call of your Son
and followed, bringing his brother with him:
inspire us, like him,
to offer ourselves readily for your service
and to tell others the good news of your kingdom;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit
one God, now and for ever.
Amen
