Minutes from the Minister:

Today we are giving out a copy of the calendar for the year.  Last Tuesday the parish council approved the calendar for 2018.  There are some great activities planned for the year and I have to say I am looking forward with a lot of excitement for what is coming.  I want to encourage us all to go and put some of these things in our diary now.  Don’t miss out on something great because you let other stuff get in first!

You will notice a few new things in the calendar.  Firstly, the parish camp!  Brenda and I love camping, or at least our version of it where you have a Kombi and proper mattress.  We are currently looking for a caravan park somewhere nearby that would be nice to go to.  Choosing a caravan park lets as many people come as possible.  Cabins for those who just don’t camp, caravan sites for those with caravans or Kombis and camping sites for those that want to go hardcore in a tent or sleep out under the stars.  Preferably we are looking for somewhere not too far away so that those who just don’t want to camp can come up for the day.

The purpose of the camp is fellowship.  We won’t be doing any massive teaching or big long sessions.  It is a chance for us all to get away and just spend some time together, hopefully even get to know someone from another service or centre.  We will do Morning and Evening Prayer together and Compline, as well as Holy Communion on Sunday.  If you know of somewhere suitable to have a look at then please send me an email or let me know!  The help would be greatly appreciated!

You might also note that the calendar is not really complete.  We haven’t put everything on because I wanted to leave enough space for us to add to it as we feel is needed.  I hope you can recognise that the major things of the year are there.

We’ve also chosen something of a theme for the Market Day.  As it is on the first day of Spring it seemed good to “re-brand” it a Spring Festival.

There is of course something not listed and that is the 5th Sunday combined service.  Parish Council agreed to cease the fifth Sunday combined service and instead choose a couple of Sunday’s throughout the year that make sense for us to come together.  So the AGM is the obvious next one, and Pentecost is another.

One other thing that I would love to do that is not listed on the calendar is to gather a worship team that helps put ideas and services together around a theme for these specific occasions, for example the Pencil Case Blessing or Pet Sunday.  Do you want to be part of this group?  If so, please let me know. I think we can come up with a range of services that would be “events” for us to invite our friends to.  It would be great to have people from across our parish involved. I hope you find the calendar helpful.  More importantly I hope you are excited for this year.  I feel like God has big things in store for us and I am excited to see what 2018 brings.  I hope and pray you are excited too.

A Prayer at the time of choosing our Bishop

Eternal God, shepherd and guide,

in your mercy give your Church in this diocese

a shepherd after your own heart

and with loving care watch over your people.

Give us a leader of vision and a teacher of your truth.

So may your Church be built up

and your name glorified;

through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
