Become a St Andrew’s Bellringer

Our Belltower became the leading tower in Australia in 2015 for the number of special performances rung.As a busy tower now, we need new ringers to cover absences when ringers are at work, away on business or even holidays!!Bellringing is great fun, it stimulates the mind, is good aerobic exercise and makes great friendships possible around the world.Importantly it provides music in a liturgical setting for our services and provides a way to celebrate with the Lismore community special events both happy and sad.If you are interested or know somebody that is, contact Margaret at the office or Robert (0410 680 285) and we can show what bellringing is about and if you wish to proceed teach you the art of English-style change ringing.

Bishop Sarah’s Request for Prayer

The Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby has invited all 37 Primates of the Anglican communion worldwide to reflect and pray together concerning the future of the Anglican Communion. Our Primate, Archbishop Philip Freier of Melbourne will be attending the meeting will be held from 11-16 January.

The meeting will include a review of the structures of the Anglican communion and deciding their approach to the next Lambeth Conference. The agenda will be set by common agreement and is likely to include the issues of religiously-motivated violence, the protection of children and vulnerable adults, the environment and human sexuality.

I encourage you all to pray for this meeting which will be crucial for the future of the Anglican Church worldwide. Archbishop Justin has said, “The difference between our societies and cultures, as well as the speed of cultural change in much of the global north, tempts us to divide as Christians: when the command of scripture, the prayer of Jesus, the tradition of the church and our theological understanding urges unity. A 21stAnglican family must have space for deep disagreement, and even mutual criticism, so long as we are faithful to the revelation of Jesus Christ together.”

In your prayers you may like to use the Primates Collect 2016 which is on the back page of the Bulletin.

Information on the progress of the meeting will be available online atwww.primates2016.org.

We pause to offer prayers and thanksgiving that we bring to our celebration of Holy Communion.

Eternal God,

at the baptism of Jesus in the river Jordan

you proclaimed him your beloved Son,

and anointed him with the Holy Spirit:

grant that all who are baptized into his name

may keep the covenant they have made,

and boldly confess him as Lord and Saviour;

who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns,

one God, in glory everlasting. Amen

Collect for Primates 2016

Gracious Father,

who in your prophet Isaiah promised us

a Spirit of wisdom and understanding, counsel and inward strength,

knowledge and true godliness:

breathe that same Spirit on the leaders of your church today,

that they may meet you in one another,

find perfect freedom in your service,

and bring forth your Spirit’s fruits of love, joy and peace;

that your church may be renewed in the form of your Son, born,

crucified and risen

that we might be one with you and in you,

ever one God, merciful and mighty. Amen.
