Our Gracious God

our gracious godWelcome to Church and a special welcome to you if you’re visiting us today! We hope you enjoy your time with us, as we Worship our most loving and gracious God.

Today in our Gospel reading from John 3:1-21 we learn a number of things. Of course we all know that most famous bible verse, John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.”

And it is an important verse, however this passage has more to say than this alone.

We migt know Jesus famous statement to Nicodemus John 3:7 “You must be born again.‘¬† Although thi sis Nicodemus’ wrong understanding of what Jeus said. The correct understanding is “You must be born from above”,meaning rebirth can only come from God. It’s God’s activity, not ours, and this is significant. God enters into his own creation to give us this rebirth into eternal life.

The other significant concept in this passage concerns light and darkness, with our reading being the example of light (Jesus) shining into darkness (Nicodemus – represents the world), People in the dark and in danger need someone to rescue them. And God in Jesus has done exactly that!

May we all be people of light, and be willing and empowered by Jesus Holy Spirit to shine the light of Christ into this dark world!
