New Dunoon Church Consecrated

St Matthew’s Anglican Church Dunoon has risen from the rubble!

The modern brick church was officially consecrated for use as a place of worship by the Right Reverend Keith Slater, Tenth Bishop of Grafton in a joyful service of Holy Communion on Saturday 9th October 2010.

Despite wet weather, more than 150 people attended the service, including Mayor of Lismore Jenny Dowell, visiting clergy, contractors and subcontractors, relatives and friends associated with the church.

Lismore’s Joyful Noise Choir led by Cathy Ridd provided music for the occasion, with Narelle Cierpiol leading congregational singing from the keyboard.

Ron Watson, project manager and member of the Dunoon Anglican congregation was honoured with a presentation.

Also consecrated was a memorial window and stain glass cross donated by Delsia Ward, Joy Westcott and Nancy Perkins, daughters of Ron and Dulcie Parrish, in loving memory of their parents’ faithful service to the Dunoon Anglican community.

The second church built on the site was demolished in a dramatic and intense tornado that hit the Dunoon village with ferocity on the evening of 26th October 2007.

A number of other homes and buildings in the village were severely damaged in the storm.

A sumptuous feast was shared in the undercroft following the service: echoes of the Feeding of the Multitude miracle.
