Jesus; the heart of Christmas!

Jesus; the heart of Christmas!

Welcome to Church and a special welcome to you if you’re visiting us today!

the heart of christmas

the heart of christmas

The heart is one of the most important organs in the body! As it pumps blood around our bodies it powers us, and it gives us the ability to do a great many things with our lives, from work and the daily grind to sport and recreation. If we have heart problems, then our whole life can be out of sorts.

Jesus is the heart of Christmas, and He is ‘the reason for the season’!

If we don’t have Jesus as the heart of Christmas, we have ‘heart trouble’. We can replace Jesus with a holiday, or gift giving, or family get-togethers, but as good as these things are, our lives and our whole society is ‘out of sorts’ when we don’t have Jesus as the heart of Christmas, and of our very lives.

Jesus is the Eternal Word of God who created everything that exists, and at Christmas we remember that He became a human for the purpose of restoring our broken relationship with God. Through faith in Jesus, evidenced by a life committed to Him, we can have peace with God, peace with each other, and the sure hope of living forever!

If Jesus isn’t the heart of your Christmas, may I encourage you to investigate the evidence for Jesus as King of the Universe and rightful King of our lives! Go to Church this Christmas, hear again the message of salvation and peace that Jesus offers, and put Jesus as the heart of your Christmas!

May that great Carol by Isaac Watts be true for you!

Joy to the world, the Lord has come, let earth receive her King!

NRS Philippians 21-11

If then there is any encouragement in Christ, any consolation from love, any sharing in the Spirit, any compassion and sympathy,  2 make my joy complete: be of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind.  3 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility regard others as better than yourselves.  4 Let each of you look not to your own interests, but to the interests of others.  5 Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus,  6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited,  7 but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness. And being found in human form,  8 he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death– even death on a cross.  9 Therefore God also highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name,  10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,  11 and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

NRS Luke 21-20

In those days a decree went out from Emperor Augustus that all the world should be registered.  2 This was the first registration and was taken while Quirinius was governor of Syria.  3 All went to their own towns to be registered.  4 Joseph also went from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to the city of David called Bethlehem, because he was descended from the house and family of David.  5 He went to be registered with Mary, to whom he was engaged and who was expecting a child.  6 While they were there, the time came for her to deliver her child.  7 And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in bands of cloth, and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.  8 In that region there were shepherds living in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night.  9 Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.  10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for see– I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people:  11 to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord.  12 This will be a sign for you: you will find a child wrapped in bands of cloth and lying in a manger.”  13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God and saying,  14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace among those whom he favors!”  15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go now to Bethlehem and see this thing that has taken place, which the Lord has made known to us.”  16 So they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the child lying in the manger.  17 When they saw this, they made known what had been told them about this child;  18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds told them.  19 But Mary treasured all these words and pondered them in her heart.  20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them.
