Minute with the Minister
By the time you read this the children will be back at school for the year. I know that for at least who read this you will think it’s a fine idea but whether or not the children are at school doesn’t impact our life too much. For some, Bren and I included, all it really means is that we need to be mindful of the school zones on the roads again, don’t forget to drop down to 40 in the right hours or it could be costly.
Every year this year I find myself reflecting on one thing that the school year brings us and that is a shape or pattern to the year. I know seasons bring that too. But there is something about the pattern of life that the school year brings that is valuable.
It reminds us that there are times we need to take a break. We can get very caught up in the busy-ness of life that it is good to be reminded occasionally to take a break. To stop what is normal and do something different. Smell the roses. Go fishing. Do something that is not in your normal routine. The gift of the weekend that God gave us in the Sabbath is sometimes underestimated in our modern busy world. A day or so to relax, refresh, get out of the ordinary, spend time with family or friends that we don’t see at work, or school or even church.
But it also reminds me that we have a pattern to life from the church as well. The season of Lent begins in a month’s time, late this year. Another season for us. This one to help us with self examination. A pause to examine our lives and ask where are we living up to God’s standards and where we aren’t. Good questions for us to consider.
The will lead us through to Easter Day and the great season of Easter. New life. What a reminder that is. That we would have a whole season set aside to remember that our death is not the end. That beyond death is the new life that Jesus offers us. Though we are reminded throughout the Easter Season that the new life is not just for then but for now as well. Jesus new life is for us today.
But let’s get back to the school year. Yep the children are back to school. The holidays are over and I for one have enjoyed the different pace that the school holidays brings to life, even if they don’t affect me directly. But I’m also reminded that now is the time to get back to learning.
I want to encourage you to get back into learning. I want to encourage you to get back into a bible study, even if you have never been involved before. Give the office a call and find out about one of our groups. Or perhaps let Margaret know if you would be interested in joining a day group. I’m thinking about starting a daytime Bible Study group. If you’re interested let the office know when would be good for you. Holidays are over and it is time for us all to get back to school.
Blessings
Rev Christian
